Call for Papers für eine Tagung „Jutland and after: The First World War at Sea from War to Peace, 1916-1919“

This Anglo-German conference on May, 31st, June 1st and 2nd 2017, to be held in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and co-hosted by the Deutsches Marinemuseum and the National Museum of the Royal Navy, will explore the First World War at sea from the battle of Jutland through to the Armistice and the peace treaties which brought it to an end. Any methodological approach and any aspect of the naval history of this period will be very welcome, although the core subject matter will be the struggle between Britain and Germany in the North Sea and the course and consequences of the Battle of Jutland/Skagerrak.
Papers which address the following areas will be especially welcome:
– The Battle of Jutland: its cause, course and consequences.
– Social and cultural history of navies 1916-1919
– Economic impact of the war at sea
– Impact of the war at sea on the ‘Home Front’ and domestic politics and issues
– Use of intelligence 1916-1922
– Impact of the war at sea on wider international relations
– Lessons Learned from Jutland: technology, tactics, strategy, education
– The Material Culture of Jutland and the war at sea: cemeteries and memorials, museum collections, ships, wrecks and marine archaeology.
– Marking the 2016 Jutland Centenary: approaches, controversies, lessons learned.
